War on social media
Today we have about war on social media. Yesterday,
We had about narcissism. And tomorrow morning
We shall have about selfishness. But to-day,
To-day we have about social media. We live in a world
Where social media has taken control
And to-day
we have about war on social media.
This is Facebook and this is Instagram,
Who’s use you will see, when you are giving your likes
And this is Twitter, which allows you to expresses
your opinion,
The people who are not users of social media
Hold in their minds and eloquent gestures,
Which in
our case we have not got.
This is the internet, which is where Identity is released,
Whit an easy flick of the tomb. And please do not let
me
See anyone using their finger. This is quite easy
If you have any strength in your finger. The internet
Is fragile and motionless, always letting you see
What has
been posted online.
And this you can see is the post button. The purpose
of this
Is to open the breach, as you see. We use it to share
Glimpses of our everyday life. We call this
Seeking for attention. And rapidly posting and sharing
The many followers are assaulting and fumbling the
posts:
They call
it seeking for attention.
They call it seeking for attention: it is perfectly easy
If you have any strength in your thumb: like the post
button,
And the breach, and the privacy, and the point of
dignity,
Which in our case we have not got; and the lack of
real life socialization
Silent we sit together and share another selfie
For to-day
we have about war on social media.
I think this is a great theme. You take on a lot of the dilemmas social media has, and illuminates how people dissocialize when identity is mainly expressed online. I also like the contrast of how you first mention people off SoMe are silenced, but then later mentions how SoMe can silence real life interaction.
ReplyDeleteI love this, your theme of social media fits really great within Reed's poem structure.
ReplyDeleteWell done to impose the 'war' theme on the struggle for identity expression and attention seeking online. The poem has many good features but I particularly liked stanza 4 where words like 'breach' and 'fumbling' became very colorful and given double meaning.
ReplyDeleteThe Reed structure and all his characteristic catch-phrases are present in your version, guaranteeing easy recognizability for the reader of the original and your poem's relation to it.
This is a very successful way to describe the failing attempts to identify oneself online through social media.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore I think that you have managed to maintain the original structure very well throughout the five stanzas

Good job on really imposing the war-element. I like how you have followed Reed's structure and made it very contemporary.
