Seven "deadly" sins

Auhtor function: Romantic
Notion: Sins

I am a sinner. A beautiful sinner going up in flames in the eyes of the liars.
For who is not a sinner? Plummeting through the nine circles of hellfire below.
I lust. Therefore I sin.
But is lust so vulgar?
Skin against skin, hormones dancing in the air like fireflies. Moving to the beat of the hearts touching.
I glutton. Therefore I sin.
But is gluttony so disgusting?
Taking that last moist piece of mutton. Letting the salvia covered hungering teeth bore deep into the flesh.
I am greedy. Therefore I sin
But is greed so distasteful?
The grinning smile being reflected in the golden, freshly pressed coins weighing heavenly heavily in the leather covered pouch.
I am slothful. Therefore I sin.
But is sloth so unacceptable?
The soft mattress bends gently under the weight. A thousand feathers slowly lifts the mind far away. And the sun runs in circles.
I am wrathful. Therefore I sin.
But is wrath so abnormal?
The veins in the forehead pounding like hammers. A warmth lights the ears. There's only one path, and it is red.
I am envious. Therefore I sin
But is envy so shameless?
The stomach tightens, sickening, yet enlightening. Eyes like lightning shooting for what they want.
I am prideful. Therefore I sin.
But is pride so loathsome?
The rush of a hundred rollercoaster rides. The heart skips several beats. A smile stretching until sore.

Reflective:

By choosing romantic, I can express what the different forms of the seven deadly sins, more or less, feels like when experienced in real life. The notion can also only be expressed through emotions, as they are about the human mind and body. If I had used the poet instead, I would not have been able to be this expressive. Lyrical functions have rules, that I would not be able to follow with this notion. The prophet could also be a great choice for the function. As a way of spreading the message of the seven deadly sins, and how they should not define one. In my writing I also tried to make sure that even though it was about sins, they would not appear as wrong. Even wrath with its warmth can be welcoming.

Writing Game 8

Author: Poet
Notion: Hate

I wish to make it clear to thou, whom I hate.
I hope thou will suffer when thou enter Hell’s gate.
Doth thy mother even care for thee?
Thy cadaver put into the ground is what I wish to see.

But before thou shall feel the relief of death.
Thou must suffer whilst alive, until thy last breath.
I hopeth thy have some beautiful offspring, that deceases from cancer.
And whilst thou look to God for an answer,
on their graves I will act as a dancer.

Why doth I deserve this hate, thou may ask
For what thou did maketh not hating you an impossible task.
Thou stole the girl I loved, and took her as thy wife.
And for that intolerable action I wish to end thy life.

REFLECTION

If I had chosen another author function, for example scribbler, this poem might come off as a homicidal threat, but by using the notion, hate, in a poem it comes off as an angry poet that blows off some steam through art. Furthermore, I wanted to make it sound Victorian in order to make it less dark, although it is still a dark poem.

A King's Power

Abstract notion: Power
Author function: Screenwriter

INT. CASTLE - THRONE ROOM - EVENING
King Bastion is sitting on his throne, while his eight-year old runs around and plays.

LEONARD
So I’ll be king some day, father?

KING BASTION
(Smiles)
No king rules forever, my son. When my days are over, you will be king.

LEONARD
And I can do whatever I want?

KING BASTION
Well technically yes, but..

Leonard cuts King Bastion off.
LEONARD
(Speaks fast, excited)
Then I’ll arrest, Arthur. I don’t like him, and he took my favorite wooden sword from me. And I want all the gold and toys in the world! And I’ll make my own holiday, where all the villagers will come and give me a gift, like my birthday!

KING BASTION
(Chuckles)
Now, Leonard. With great power comes great responsibility. You should use your power to stir the hearts of your people. The success of your kingdom will reflect your power, and wisdom among all other kingdoms.

Leonard runs to his father, and sits on his lap.

LEONARD
But what does that mean?

KING BASTION
Sometimes bad people have power, son. That results in war, poverty, starvation, however a good ruler can create a kingdom, which is growing, happy, and healthy. It takes inner power to use your position for the people, but weakness to give in to your dark temptations, my son.

LEONARD I wanna be just like you

THE END

Reflection: If i had chosen to write as a poet, there would not have been any dialogues between the characters, however only thoughts from the speaker, which is the poet himself making it much more personal.  A poet would also appeal more to the emotions of the reader than the logic, which means that a poem does not have to make sense at first, however a screenplay is very thorough and makes sense at first glance.
The setting in this screenplay is very specific, as the reader is given the information that it takes place in the throne room in a kingdom, however if this was a poem the setting would not be that important and specific, its main focus would have been power.

My lover, my friend

First draft:

Author function: Poet
Notion: Friendship

First of all, I love you
Respect is what I get from you
I am me when I’m with you
Endless laughs I share with you
No one understands me like you
Dancing is what I love to do with you
Safe I feel in the presence of you
Happy I am, when I speak with you
I think everyone should have a friend like you
Partners in crime, me and you

Second draft:

Author function: Poet
Notion: Love

First of all, I love you
Respect is what I get from you
I am me when I’m with you
Endless laughs I share with you
No one understands me like you
Dancing is what I love to do with you
Safe I feel in the presence of you
Happy I am, when I speak with you
I think everyone should have a friend like you
Partners in crime, me and you

Angels and devils, both we can be
No one will say otherwise or disagree
Daughters of the same world are we

Lying in bed and closing my eyes
Oh, my dreams are never-ending
Versions of life with you I imagine
Every thought to you I am sending

In the dark you always light up and shine
Smiling and laughing, happy, you’re mine

Every day I see your face
Victories we have, all with grace
Ending my sentences, reading my mind
Roses are red, and you are so kind
You and I are meant to last
Thus, I know, life goes by so fast
Hats and dresses, oh we had so much fun
In the rain in the street, on the beach in the sun
Neighbours at first, lovers at last
God knows, we have had a blast

Reflection:
At first this poem was about friendship, however as I kept writing, it developed into both friendship and love. I lead to love, because often friendship becomes something more, and in this case, it started with two girls who were best friends but became lovers in the end. As can be seen in the first stanza, all lines end on “you”, which is supposed to be a little provocative, because normally you do not make lines rhyme by using the same word. However, as the poem progressed I chose to use different rhyme schemes such as A, A – A, B, C, B and A, A, B, B, C, C. If I had chosen another function, I might not have been able to play with rhymes in the same way, which is a great part of the poem. Furthermore, if I had chosen any other function, such as a playwright, perhaps the story would have been more dramatic rather than beautiful, which would have changed the way the story is perceived. As the icing on the cake, all the lines’ beginning letters form vertical words, which form the main message of the poem.

What is love?

Author function: Poet

Abstract notion: Love

To love is to live

And to live is to love.

To make special plans just for two

In a world so frightening,

And share a life and make dreams come true.

To love is to be happy

And to share a smile.

To make the little things count

And to make the best of everything

By looking at the good things in life.

To love is to share,

But most importantly

To love is to care.

To show feelings and emotions

And to share love with a special person.

To love is to have a special someone,

Who you can create memories with,

To recall all of the good things

And someone who you can call;

A friend, a partner, a lover.

Reflection:

This poem talks about the definition of love and what it really means to share love with a special someone in life. However, the poem does not contain a lot of rhyme as poems in most cases do, but it follows a structure of 5 verses in each stanza. This is also known as cinquain, which is the definition of a poem, that contains 5 verses in each stanza. However, if I had chosen the function of a different author function, such as a novelist the structure would have been different and not structured like a poem has to be. The story would be more detailed and it would also include more specific information and details about the characters, which would make it easier for the readers to understand who the story is really about.

Women! Gotta love them

Abstract notion: Women
Function: Author

                                            creatures, lovely creatures
Sure you do! Not at fucking all! Funny
but well let me try. You all know women, right?
                   subject                                                      But! An abstract riddle.
on this                                                                  You know one of those
awful lot                                                                          where you ask, “anything
know an                                                                       wrong?” and the answer
I do not                                                                                 is “no” but then still
                                                                                                     “yes”. Well, shit
                                                                                                        becomes pretty
                                                                                                         complex then.
                                                                                                        Or when you are
                                                                                                      a jerk but do not
                                                                                                  know why, but
                                                                                                you obviously
                                                                                              are. And did you
                                                                                          wonder why she
                                                                                    chooses the douchebag
                                                                              even though she always
                                                                        complains about him?
                                                                 Nah, dude, me neither??
But fuck it! Don’t get me
                                                      wrong. I love those
                                                strange pretty fiends.
                                            Chaos is beautiful!
                                          Without chaos we
                                         wouldn’t have had
                                         this beautiful planet
                                         of ours! Ladies, take
                                        it as a compliment.
                                        And like chaos,
                                        I will probably never
                                        understand this
                                        opposite sex of me.
                                        But well, I just keep
                                        running around
                                       confused and abused,

                                     and enjoy the company
                                      of my female fellows.
                                      I guess the unknown is
                                    the most intriguing and
after all this is the most
                                    unknown, so I enjoy it!

Reflection on another function: Poet

If I had chosen to write as a poet I had been able to write lines that would have been rhythmic and aesthetic in some sort of way. That solution would probably have given me the chance to write a bunch of other stuff on the specific notion, because it would have been necessary for me to find words that either rhymed or made the text sound kind of rhythmic. Compared to the author function I chose, the poem would probably have been a little bit more implicit rather than expressing itself explicit. As a poet I would probably have used rhetorical language which would have created a sense of poetry, thus, maybe make the text more intriguing to the reader.
