To-day we have aerobics class.
Yesterday,
We had hardcore spinning. And
to-morrow morning,
We shall have what to do after
working out. But to-day,
To-day we have aerobics class. The
glazed donuts
Glisten like rays of sun hitting the
surface of the ocean,
And
to-day we have aerobics class.
This is the fruits and vegetables
isle. And this
Is the whole-wheat section, whose
use you will see,
When you step onto the scales. And
this is the dairy fridge,
Which in your case you are not
allowed in. Chocolate and chips
Hold in the sweets section their
delicious, tempting gestures,
Which
in our case we are not allowed in.
This is the clasp of the sports bra,
which is always released
With an easy flick of the thumb. And
please do not let me
See anyone using this finger before
class is up. You can do this workout quite easy
If you have any strength in your
body. The bosoms
Are fragile and meant to be resting
on the sofa, but we can never let anyone see
Any
of us using our finger.
And these you can see are the low
fat alternatives. The purpose of this
Is to trick your minds, as you see.
We can slide it
Down our throats without much guilt:
we call this
Easing the Diet. And down our
throats
Goes the unhealthy binge that the
sweeteners make us crave:
They
call it easing the Diet.
They call it easing the Diet: It is
perfectly easy
If you have any strength in your
body: like the low fat alternatives,
And the sports bra, and the
whole-wheat products, and the fruits and vegetables,
Which in our case we have not got;
and the fat on our bodies
Strapped in tight sportswear and the
unhealthy binge goes down our throats,
For to-day we have aerobics class.
For to-day we have aerobics class.
This is a really funny and creative poem! I really like how relatable this inner war is between being healthy and wanting all the sweets in the world. It works great as a parody of the Henry Reed poem!
ReplyDeleteI love your poem! You present this inner war, which is very relatable, perfectly, while you also do a great job of following the structure of the original poem.
ReplyDeleteHa, good fun! The war on calories, or the war on our bodies...
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed how you kept all the good Reed catch-phrases intact to ensure instant recognizability, and also the faithful reproduction of his 5 stanza structure. Super! A very good parody, due to the light tone and register...
Haha, an inner struggle or an inner war a lot of us can relate to.
ReplyDeleteYou have managed to keep the catch-phrases of the Reed poem and keep it very light and funny despite the rather dark topic, love it!
