Author Function: poet
Abstract notion: love
There are many misunderstandings about me.
Although I may be red with horns and
tail
and also described to be male.
I am not evil as I hope you can see.
If I were evil and thus cruel
then I would be no threat.
And if it was true what here is said,
It's clear I would only be a harmless
fool.
I am actually kind.
I will greet you with a smile.
And you are welcomed in my embrace.
To your flaws, I am simply blind.
I support your lifestyle.
And you will never be a disgrace.
I simply do not judge,
nor do I demand anything from you.
So smoke, drink, eat, fuck or get a
tattoo,
without worry of any grudge.
I support your decision
so follow your heart's desire.
Let rage swell and blaze the world in
fire.
This is possible even if you call
yourself a christian.
I am patient and my tolerance is not
low.
To your dismiss of me I am acceptive.
Even if you only offer me hate.
This is something you already know:
even when you are not receptive
I will always
love you
and I will
always
wait.
Reflection:
I wanted to write a poem about what makes a character like the devil frightening and in this argue that the idea of the devil is scary when considering how easy it is for anyone to fall into tempted desires. Thus I decided to take that and make a poem where the narrator speaks to the reader through it. I admit that it was only after I had written it that I decided to make it 'Writing Game 8', as I am very lazy. However, I think I am excused as the abstract notion 'love' does apply very well and hopefully, dear rader, made you as similarly disturbed as when receiving an anonymous love-poem.
Seems to me that the notion could just as well be 'seduction'. That is also the main business of the Devil, of course.
ReplyDeleteYour reflection essay should really make a hypothetical comparison to another author function doing a text about the same abstract notion.
