To-day we have how
to post on Instagram. Yesterday,
We had pretending to
have a diagnosis. And to-morrow morning,
We shall have how to be intrusive. But to-day,
To-day we have how
to post on Instagram. The make-up
Is smeared on the
pillow, like an abstract painting,
And
to-day we have how to post on Instagram.
This is the like
button. And this
Is the upload
button, whose use you will see,
When you've chosen
the best filter. And this is the number of likes,
Which in your case
you have not got. The sadness
Lures in the
sensible self-perception
Which
in your case you have not got
This is the follow
button, which is always activated
With an easy flick
of the thumb. And please do not let me
See anyone using his
finger. You can do it quite easy
If you have not got
any self-control. The pretty ones
Are looking at
pictures, and no one will ever see
Any
of them using their finger.
And this you can see
is the filter selection. The purpose of this
Is to get more
likes, as you see. We can apply them
To anything not as
pretty as it could be: we call this
Easing the pain of
lack of likes. To anything not as pretty as it could be
Do not fall into the
game of facade
They
call it easing the pain of lack of likes.
They call it easing
the pain of lack of likes: it is perfectly easy
If you have not got
any self-control: like the ones
Who do not care
about any of it, who have self respect
Which in your case
you have not got: and anything not as pretty as it could be
Pretending not to
care but failing at it
For
to-day we have how to post on Instagram.
I really like your poem! I like how you captured the tendency for the hunt for likes there is today on social media, and how this is a hunt that turn into a war of self-obsession. If your post had a like buttom I would click it! :D
ReplyDeleteThere should be an image too - with a cool filter! ;-)
DeleteGood idea to be satirical of Instagram and show up some users' narcissism in voice one. That made me laugh, which is a good quality for a parody. The sadness of voice two creates a tension in the poem that is even more marked than the tension in the Reed original - no small feat, indeed!
ReplyDeleteThe structure and the catch-phrases are lovingly copied from the the original and recgnizability is fully ensured - superb stuff!
I love the idea you went with for this parody! It's easy to tell that it's a parody because of the "mocking" of narcissistic Instagram users and their insatiable thirst for likes. It follows the structure of the original poem perfectly as well. Great! :-D
ReplyDeleteThe hunt for likes becomes an obsession and you manage to illustrate this rather sad considered topic into something humoristic. You also manage to maintain the structure of the poem really well. Made me giggle :)
ReplyDeleteI really like this! It is clear that it is the structure of Reeds poem, yet the content is your own. It does a good job of being funny and sarcastic as a parody should be, while still containing a serious and important topic. Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteI think that you have done a really good job writing this! I like how you have used some of the content from the original poem together with your own ideas :)
