ReplyDeleteI like the choice of point of view and the fact that she already 'knows'. I also like that she questions her father's motives and in a way calls him out on his bullshit (let us call it feminist overtones). Lastly, It is very clever that 'a picture on a wall' becomes synonym with death without explicitly telling us.
A cool execution. I commend you on going this route with the task.

ReplyDeleteSuper cool rising to the challenge and the occasion. It's gives a nice twist to the story that this is a talking back to the Last Duchess' father, and reminding him of his responsibility for the outcome. It would be nearly impossible to include the last twist in the original poem, namely that of the negotiations for a Next Duchess being on the way, but that is about the only thing missing from the poem...
